Description

Robust 997 or also known as R997. It is a popular variety for microgreens. Shoots are sweet flavored and bright yellow when blanched.
R997 is a mid-season butterfly popcorn with large orange grain. It has a long cylinder-shaped ears with easy shelling orange kernels and improved stalk strength. It has wide geographic adaptation and has performed exceptionally internationally.
High Resistance: Grey Leaf Spot
Intermediate Resistance: Common Rust, Northern Corn Leaf Blight, and Drought.
This is a non GMO F1 hybrid where the seed is created by cross pollinating two parents. Hybrids are popular because the seedlings have high vigor and “shoot out of the ground”. Hybrid seedlings also germinate at a very similar rate so you get all the seedlings at the same height at the same time.
Cultivation: Corn requires rich, fertile soil. Sow seeds after last frost date. Soil should be at least 65 F for fast germination. (Corn will not germinate if soil temperature is less than 55 F.) Plant in blocks of at least 4 rows of a single hybrid (as opposed to fewer, longer rows) for good pollination and good tip-fill. It is not necessary to remove suckers (side sprouts growing from the base of the plant). Studies show that removing them may actually reduce yields.
For shoots/microgreens, soak seed 6-8 hours. Follow germination temperatures. Broadcast seeds in soil media.
